Responsibilities
- Receive, evaluate, and prioritize incoming emergency and non-emergency calls from the public.
- Dispatch law enforcement officers, fire fighters, and emergency medical personnel to appropriate locations based on requests for service.
- Maintain accurate and detailed logs of all communications and dispatch activities.
- Provide emergency instructions to callers to ensure their safety while units are en route.
- Monitor police and fire department radio frequencies to stay updated on ongoing incidents and resource availability.
- Collaborate with other agencies and internal departments to coordinate complex multi-agency responses.
- Evaluate the nature and severity of incidents and determine the appropriate level of response.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required; post-secondary education in criminal justice or communications is a plus.
- Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver's license.
- Excellent typing skills (minimum 35-40 words per minute) and computer proficiency.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to speak clearly under pressure.
- Ability to remain calm, composed, and focused in high-stress and emergency situations.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, holidays, weekends, and nights (24-hour coverage is required).
- Background check and drug screening will be required prior to employment.
