We are currently seeking a Police Dispatcher Trainee to join the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government team. As a Dispatcher Trainee, you will learn the fundamentals of emergency communications, radio dispatching, and database management. We provide a comprehensive training program to ensure you are fully prepared to handle the fast-paced environment of a 911 center.
Responsibilities
- Receive and Prioritize Calls: Answer incoming emergency (911) and non-emergency lines, accurately gathering and relaying critical information to responding units.
- Dispatch Units: Utilize computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems to deploy police, fire, and EMS resources to incidents efficiently and safely.
- Monitor Systems: Continuously monitor radio frequencies, CCTV cameras, and status boards to track unit locations and resource availability.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate, detailed logs of all calls, incidents, and unit activities within the department's database.
- Public Assistance: Provide information and assistance to the public during non-emergency calls, maintaining a professional and helpful demeanor.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to speak clearly and concisely over a radio or telephone.
- Experience: Previous experience in customer service, call center operations, or public safety is a plus but not required for the Trainee role.
- Multi-tasking: Ability to listen, speak, and type simultaneously while managing multiple tasks under pressure.
- Availability: Must be willing to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
