Responsibilities
- Process 911 emergency calls with precision and empathy, determining priority levels and dispatching appropriate resources
- Operate multi-channel radio systems to coordinate police, fire, and EMS units across Newark's jurisdiction
- Maintain detailed records in Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems during critical incidents
- Execute emergency protocols for natural disasters, active threats, and medical emergencies
- Provide life-saving instructions to callers during medical emergencies until first responders arrive
- Collaborate with state agencies during multi-jurisdictional incidents and major events
- Participate in continuous training drills to maintain certification and procedural excellence
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED with minimum 60 college credits or 2 years customer service experience
- Valid New Jersey driver's license with clean driving record
- Pass comprehensive background check, polygraph, and psychological evaluation
- Typing speed of 40+ WPM with 90% accuracy (tested during application process)
- Ability to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
- US citizenship or legal permanent residency status
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn specialized emergency software
- Fluency in English (Spanish proficiency strongly preferred)
