Responsibilities
- Answer emergency and non-emergency calls with professionalism and urgency
- Dispatch appropriate police, fire, and EMS units using CAD/RMS systems
- Provide pre-arrival instructions to callers during critical incidents
- Maintain accurate logs and documentation of all communications
- Monitor multiple radio channels simultaneously during high-pressure situations
- Coordinate resources with other agencies during major incidents
- Complete all required training modules to achieve full dispatcher certification
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; college coursework in criminal justice preferred
- Minimum typing speed of 40 WPM with 95% accuracy
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during emergencies
- Proficient in multitasking and operating computer systems
- Strong active listening and verbal communication skills
- Must pass background check, drug screening, and psychological evaluation
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Virginia residency required upon certification
