Key Responsibilities:
As a Police Dispatcher Trainee, you will be trained to perform the following duties:
- Receive and process incoming emergency (911) and non-emergency calls from the public via telephone and radio systems.
- Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services (EMS) to appropriate locations using Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems.
- Monitor and coordinate the activities of field personnel, ensuring officer safety and effective response times.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, logs, and status reports for all dispatched units.
- Provide critical information to officers, including suspect descriptions, traffic updates, weather conditions, and location details.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and clear communication style during high-stress, life-or-death situations.
- Assist in the training of new dispatch personnel and participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid California Class C Driver’s License.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required; some college coursework in criminal justice or public administration is a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to type at least 35-40 WPM.
- Ability to remain calm and make quick, accurate decisions under pressure.
- Clear background check and drug screen results.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Proficiency with computer applications and the ability to learn complex dispatch software quickly.
