Responsibilities

  • Receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls from the public via telephone and radio.
  • Dispatch police, fire, and medical units to emergency scenes in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all calls, unit responses, and incidents in the Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
  • Provide critical information and instructions to field personnel and citizens during incidents.
  • Maintain situational awareness and monitor police activity for potential threats or service calls.
  • Stay calm and professional under extreme pressure and high-stress situations.
  • Perform routine equipment checks and system maintenance.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required; Associate's degree preferred.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Valid North Carolina Driver's License.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively while listening to radio traffic and typing information.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • No prior law enforcement or dispatch experience required (Training provided).
