Job Summary:
As a Police Dispatcher Trainee, you will monitor emergency radio frequencies, answer 911 calls, and coordinate the deployment of emergency resources. You will work in a fast-paced environment requiring intense focus and the ability to multitask effectively under pressure.
Responsibilities
- Receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls for service with speed, accuracy, and professionalism.
- Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and medical units to incident locations via radio and telephone.
- Monitor security camera feeds and alarm systems to detect and report suspicious activity.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date logs and records of all calls, dispatches, and reports within the CAD system.
- Provide real-time status updates to field units and coordinate multi-agency responses during major incidents.
- Perform administrative duties including data entry, report generation, and document filing.
- Assist in training new dispatchers by modeling best practices in communication and safety.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice or a related field is highly preferred.
- Valid California Class C Driver’s License and a clean driving record (DMV check required).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to speak clearly on the radio.
- Ability to type at least 35-40 words per minute (typing skills will be tested during the interview process).
- Strong decision-making skills and the ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations.
- Must be willing to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must pass a thorough background investigation, polygraph examination, and psychological evaluation.
