Responsibilities
- Monitor Communication Systems: Receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls via 911 lines and phone systems, ensuring accurate logging of all incident details.
- Dispatch Units: Utilize computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems to send police, fire, and ambulance units to the appropriate locations efficiently.
- Information Gathering: Gather vital information from callers, including location, nature of the call, and status of the incident, while providing pre-arrival instructions.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all dispatch activity, including calls for service and unit status.
- Coordination: Coordinate with other law enforcement agencies and emergency services to ensure seamless communication during multi-agency responses.
- Training: Complete all required trainee modules and shadow senior dispatchers to develop proficiency in radio communication and emergency protocols.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent required; completion of post-secondary courses in criminal justice or emergency services is a plus.
- Experience: Previous experience in customer service, call center operations, or emergency response is highly preferred but not mandatory for trainee positions.
- Skills: Excellent typing speed (minimum 35 WPM) and proficiency with computer applications and data entry.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to remain calm and articulate under high-stress situations.
- Licensure: A valid driver's license is required.
- Availability: Must be available to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.
