Responsibilities
- Receive and Process Calls: Answer incoming emergency (911) and non-emergency lines, gathering critical incident information and determining the appropriate response.
- Dispatch Field Units: Efficiently coordinate police, fire, and emergency medical services to the correct location with the necessary resources.
- Monitor Communications: Maintain continuous radio and telephone communications with field personnel to update them on changing situations and officer safety.
- Record Keeping: Accurately log all calls, dispatches, and incidents into the Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system for legal and historical reference.
- Public Assistance: Provide non-emergency information, directions, and assistance to the general public over the phone.
- Unit Status Management: Monitor the status of all units in the field to ensure optimal coverage and response times.
- Training Support: Assist in the training of new dispatch personnel and participate in regular refresher drills.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's degree in a related field is preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in customer service, call center operations, or law enforcement support is highly desirable.
- Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to speak clearly and concisely over the radio.
- Typing: Demonstrated typing proficiency (minimum 35-40 words per minute).
- Computer Literacy: Ability to learn and operate complex computer-aided dispatch systems and databases quickly.
- Behavioral: Ability to remain calm and make quick decisions in high-stress, emergency situations.
- Certifications: Valid driver's license required; successful completion of a background check and medical evaluation.
