Job Summary:
As a Police Dispatcher Trainee, you will learn to operate Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems and radio communication equipment. You will be responsible for receiving and processing calls for service, prioritizing incidents, and maintaining accurate logs. This is a fast-paced role requiring quick thinking, excellent typing skills, and a strong commitment to public service.
Responsibilities
- Receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls for service via telephone and radio.
- Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and medical units to appropriate locations with accurate information.
- Monitor multiple radio frequencies and maintain situational awareness of ongoing incidents.
- Enter and update incident reports and records in the Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
- Provide critical information to field personnel to ensure officer and citizen safety.
- Perform administrative duties including data entry, report filing, and answering general inquiries.
- Work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to ensure 24/7 coverage.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Valid New Mexico Driverβs License is required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to type 35-45 WPM accurately.
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in high-stress, emergency situations.
- Strong computer literacy and ability to learn new software quickly.
- Must pass a comprehensive background check, medical examination, and psychological evaluation.
