The Raleigh Police Department is seeking dedicated and detail-oriented individuals to join our team as a Police Dispatcher Trainee. This is a direct hire opportunity to play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and security of our community. As a Trainee, you will undergo rigorous training to become a certified Emergency Communications Officer, serving as the voice of the city during critical moments.

Responsibilities
- Receive and Process Calls: Answer incoming emergency (911) and non-emergency calls with composure, accurately gathering incident details and location information.
- Dispatch Units: Coordinate the rapid response of police, fire, and EMS units to emergencies using CAD (Computer-Aided Dispatch) systems.
- Monitor Communications: Continuously monitor radio frequencies, CCTV cameras, and law enforcement databases to detect suspicious activities and update officers in the field.
- Data Entry: Accurately enter and update incident reports, citations, and warrants into departmental databases in real-time.
- Support Operations: Assist senior dispatchers in maintaining communication logs and ensuring all necessary documentation is completed for legal and administrative purposes.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in a related field is preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in customer service, call center operations, or public safety is highly desirable.
- Licensure: Must possess a valid, current North Carolina Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
- Skills: Strong typing skills (minimum 35-40 WPM) and proficiency with computer systems.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Availability: Must be available to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
