Responsibilities
- Receive and Process Calls: Answer emergency and non-emergency calls for service with clarity and precision, assessing the situation to determine the appropriate response.
- Unit Dispatch: Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and medical units to incident locations using standard radio codes and procedures.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate, detailed logs of all calls, incidents, and dispatch activities within the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
- Information Relay: Provide essential information to responding officers and citizens, including weather conditions, road closures, and status updates.
- Monitor Systems: Continuously monitor police radio frequencies, surveillance systems, and digital maps to identify emerging incidents.
- Customer Service: Assist the public with inquiries, requests for service, and provide guidance during non-critical situations.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to speak clearly over a radio system.
- Skills: Basic computer proficiency and typing skills (minimum 30-40 words per minute preferred).
- Behavior: Ability to remain calm, composed, and make quick, accurate decisions under stressful, high-pressure situations.
- License: Valid California Class C Driverβs License with a good driving record.
- Background: Must pass a thorough background investigation, drug screen, and medical exam.
