Responsibilities
- Receive and process incoming emergency and non-emergency calls via telephone and radio, gathering critical information to determine the nature and location of the incident.
- Dispatch law enforcement officers, fire personnel, and emergency medical services to the appropriate locations in accordance with established protocols.
- Monitor and maintain real-time status of all field units, ensuring efficient resource allocation and response times.
- Enter and update incident reports, warrants, and records in the CAD (Computer-Aided Dispatch) system accurately and in a timely manner.
- Provide vital support to officers in the field by relaying information, requests for backup, and status updates.
- Maintain strict radio discipline and professional communication standards at all times.
- Assist in the training of new dispatch personnel by sharing best practices and operational knowledge.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Valid California Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.
- Ability to type at least 40 words per minute with high accuracy.
- Must pass a background investigation, including a polygraph examination and medical evaluation.
- Must not have been convicted of a felony or have been convicted of a misdemeanor involving domestic violence or dishonesty.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
