Responsibilities
- Conduct routine inspections of food establishments, childcare facilities, and public swimming pools
- Investigate complaints and outbreaks related to foodborne illness and environmental hazards
- Enforce local and state health regulations with detailed documentation
- Provide public education on health and safety standards
- Collaborate with epidemiologists during disease outbreak responses
- Prepare comprehensive inspection reports and violation notices
- Testify in court regarding regulatory enforcement actions
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, or related field
- Valid California Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) certification
- Minimum 3 years of environmental health inspection experience
- Knowledge of FDA Food Code and California Retail Food Code
- Strong communication skills for public education and conflict resolution
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
- Clean driving record and valid California driver's license
- Bilingual in English/Spanish or English/Chinese preferred
