Responsibilities
- Conduct daily on-site inspections of public works projects (roads, drainage, utilities) for compliance with specifications and safety protocols
- Review and approve engineering plans, blueprints, and contractor submittals
- Document findings, prepare detailed inspection reports, and maintain accurate project records
- Coordinate with contractors, engineers, and city departments to resolve issues and ensure timely project completion
- Enforce compliance with municipal codes, OSHA regulations, and environmental standards
- Assist in preparing cost estimates and managing project budgets
- Represent the city in public meetings and stakeholder communications
Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (Bachelor's preferred)
- Minimum 3 years of experience in construction inspection or public works project management
- Valid California Inspector certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
- Proficiency with CAD software and inspection reporting tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Procore)
- Strong knowledge of California Building Codes, Caltrans standards, and local regulations
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
- Valid California driver's license with clean record
- Ability to perform field inspections in varying weather conditions and physical environments
