Job Overview:
In this role, you will assist in a variety of municipal projects, ensuring our roads, parks, and public spaces remain safe and accessible. You will work alongside skilled tradespeople and equipment operators, gaining valuable hands-on experience in public works operations.
Responsibilities
- Operate Heavy Equipment: Safely operate light to medium construction equipment, such as rollers, graders, and loaders, under supervision.
- Road Maintenance: Assist in resurfacing, patching, and maintaining city streets, sidewalks, and alleys.
- Snow & Ice Removal: Perform essential snow removal and ice control duties during winter months to ensure public safety.
- Traffic Control: Set up and monitor traffic control devices, including cones, signs, and flagging, to ensure worker and driver safety.
- Site Cleanup: Remove debris, trash, and hazardous materials from job sites to maintain a clean working environment.
- General Labor: Dig ditches, backfill earth, and perform various manual labor tasks required for public infrastructure projects.
Qualifications
- Valid Driver’s License: A valid New Mexico Class C Driver’s License is required; a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is a plus.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to perform heavy manual labor, including lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for extended periods, and working in all weather conditions.
- High School Diploma: High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Basic Math Skills: Ability to read blueprints, maps, and job specifications.
- Communication Skills: Ability to follow verbal and written instructions from supervisors.
- Equipment Knowledge: Familiarity with basic hand and power tools is a significant advantage.
