Job Summary
The Public Works Maintenance Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of city streets, sidewalks, and drainage systems. You will operate heavy machinery, respond to emergency maintenance requests, and ensure compliance with safety regulations to maintain the highest standards of municipal service.
Responsibilities
- Maintain Infrastructure: Perform routine inspection, maintenance, and repair of city streets, sidewalks, and public facilities.
- Heavy Equipment Operation: Safely and efficiently operate heavy machinery, including dump trucks, graders, and backhoes.
- Emergency Response: Respond to weather-related emergencies, including snow removal, flood control, and debris clearing.
- Safety Compliance: Enforce traffic control regulations and OSHA safety standards on job sites to ensure public and employee safety.
- Asset Management: Inspect municipal assets for wear and tear and report findings to supervisors for timely repairs.
- Community Engagement: Interact professionally with residents and contractors regarding maintenance schedules and projects.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in public works, construction, or general maintenance is preferred.
- License: Valid Class C Texas Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to pass a physical examination demonstrating the stamina required for outdoor labor and heavy lifting.
- Technical Skills: Basic knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment operation.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with DOT regulations and safety procedures is highly desirable.
