Role Overview
As a Public Works Maintenance Worker, you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and operation of public infrastructure. This includes street repair, drainage systems, and general park maintenance. This role is physically demanding and requires a commitment to safety and excellence in public service.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily maintenance and repair of city streets, sidewalks, and drainage infrastructure.
- Operate heavy machinery and equipment such as dump trucks, grader rollers, and asphalt pavers.
- Maintain cleanliness of public works facilities and yards.
- Respond to emergency maintenance requests and weather-related incidents (e.g., flood control, debris removal).
- Ensure all work complies with local, state, and federal safety regulations.
- Assist in snow and ice removal during winter months as required.
- Monitor and report on the condition of municipal assets to supervisors.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Valid Class C Louisiana Driverβs License required; CDL preferred.
- Physical ability to perform strenuous labor, including lifting heavy objects and operating machinery.
- Experience in general maintenance, construction, or landscaping is a plus.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and outdoor environments.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Must pass a background check and drug screening.
