Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and repair of city infrastructure, including streetlights, traffic signs, park facilities, and storm drains.
- Operate and maintain heavy machinery and equipment, such as dump trucks, backhoes, and mowers, ensuring all safety protocols are followed.
- Respond to emergency work orders and perform necessary repairs promptly, particularly during inclement weather conditions.
- Ensure all work is completed in compliance with Virginia Beach municipal codes, OSHA safety standards, and environmental regulations.
- Collaborate with other municipal departments to address community infrastructure needs and improve public service delivery.
- Inspect work areas for safety hazards and report any issues to the supervisor immediately.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Valid Class C Virginia Driver’s License with a good driving record is mandatory.
- Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting up to 50 pounds, working at heights, and operating hand and power tools.
- Basic knowledge of mechanical systems, construction materials, and landscaping techniques is preferred.
- Strong commitment to public service, community integrity, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
