Responsibilities
- Perform Routine Maintenance: Conduct daily inspections and maintenance of city vehicles, heavy machinery, and public infrastructure assets.
- Operate Equipment: Safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment such as backhoes, cranes, and forklifts for construction and repair projects.
- Roadway Repairs: Assist in pothole repair, striping, and general road maintenance to ensure smooth traffic flow.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to OSHA safety regulations and City policies to maintain a hazard-free work environment.
- Drainage Management: Clear storm drains and maintain creek banks to prevent flooding during heavy rains.
- Inventory Control: Monitor and manage spare parts inventory for maintenance workshops.
- Emergency Response: Respond to service requests and emergency repairs during inclement weather or infrastructure failure.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in general maintenance, construction, or automotive repair.
- Licensure: Valid California Class C Driver’s License and a clean driving record.
- Technical Skills: Basic knowledge of diesel mechanics, welding, or hydraulic systems is highly preferred.
- Physical Demands: Ability to lift 50+ pounds frequently and work in various weather conditions.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills for reporting and documentation.
- Residency: Must be a resident of the City of Oakland or willing to relocate.
