Responsibilities
- Oversee the accurate calculation and disbursement of pension benefits for retirees and beneficiaries in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Conduct detailed audits of pension records and payroll data to ensure compliance with ERISA and state pension laws.
- Analyze complex actuarial reports and financial statements to provide recommendations for system improvements and policy adjustments.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external inquiries regarding pension eligibility and benefits.
- Collaborate with IT teams to update and maintain the pension management information system (PMIS).
- Prepare detailed reports for state auditors and the Board of Trustees regarding fund status and liabilities.
- Train junior staff on pension calculation methodologies and compliance procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Actuarial Science, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in public sector finance, pension administration, or government benefits management.
- Strong working knowledge of state and federal pension laws, including ERISA and FERS.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools (SQL, Excel, Access) and pension software platforms.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and attention to detail skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with diverse stakeholders.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and able to pass a background investigation.
