Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Pension Benefits Analyst to join our mission-critical team in San Jose. As a key member of the Government Pension Division, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the financial health and sustainability of our state retirement systems. You will apply your expertise in actuarial science and financial analysis to manage complex pension plan data, ensuring compliance with state regulations and providing strategic insights to leadership.
In this role, you will bridge the gap between complex technical data and actionable policy recommendations, serving the public sector with the highest standards of integrity and precision.
Responsibilities
- Lead the valuation and analysis of defined benefit pension plans to determine funding requirements and liabilities.
- Develop, maintain, and validate complex actuarial models using advanced statistical software and programming languages.
- Ensure strict adherence to Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and state-specific pension legislation.
- Prepare detailed actuarial reports and presentations for the Board of Trustees, legislative committees, and executive leadership.
- Conduct sensitivity analysis and stress testing to assess the long-term impact of demographic and economic changes on the pension fund.
- Collaborate with external actuaries, auditors, and consultants to resolve technical discrepancies and optimize plan design.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Economics, Finance, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Professional Actuarial Designations (ASA, FSA, or CERA) or equivalent significant experience in pension administration.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in government benefits administration, actuarial consulting, or retirement system management.
- Strong proficiency in data analysis tools (SQL, Python, R) and financial modeling software (Excel, SAS, or similar).
- Deep understanding of government payroll systems, GASB reporting standards, and ERISA guidelines.
- Exceptional analytical problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate complex financial concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
