Responsibilities
- Operate heavy refuse collection vehicles and sanitation equipment safely and efficiently, adhering to all traffic and safety regulations.
- Collect and properly dispose of residential, commercial, and recyclable waste, ensuring strict adherence to environmental guidelines.
- Maintain the cleanliness of public rights-of-way, including streets, alleys, and parks, ensuring Boston remains a world-class city.
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on collection trucks and equipment to ensure operational readiness.
- Assist in the removal of snow and ice during winter weather events, prioritizing public safety.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and complete required documentation accurately.
- Adhere to strict safety protocols and participate in regular safety training programs.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent; vocational training in sanitation or mechanics is a plus.
- Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with required endorsements (Tanker, Hazmat, or Air Brakes) is required.
- Proven experience operating heavy municipal equipment or commercial trucks.
- Physical ability to lift heavy loads (up to 50 lbs), operate levers, and work in varying weather conditions.
- Must pass a comprehensive background check and a pre-employment medical examination.
- Strong commitment to public service and community engagement.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays as required.
