Responsibilities
- Receive and process incoming emergency and non-emergency calls via telephone, radio, and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems.
- Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services units to appropriate locations based on caller location and incident type.
- Maintain accurate, detailed logs and records of all calls, resource allocations, and incident reports.
- Provide critical information to callers, including status updates and safety instructions during emergency situations.
- Monitor and operate radio communication equipment to coordinate multi-agency responses.
- Perform quality assurance checks on dispatch activities to ensure compliance with departmental policies and regulations.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Valid Virginia Driverβs License with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Strong multi-tasking skills and the ability to remain calm and focused under high-pressure situations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with computer systems and data entry is highly preferred.
- Must successfully pass a background investigation, drug screen, and medical examination.
