Responsibilities
- Conduct routine and emergency health inspections of food establishments, childcare facilities, and public pools
- Investigate public health complaints and enforce state health regulations
- Prepare detailed inspection reports and maintain accurate compliance records
- Provide technical guidance to businesses on health code requirements
- Collaborate with epidemiologists during disease outbreak investigations
- Testify as an expert witness in health code violation hearings
- Participate in emergency response drills and public health initiatives
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, or related field
- Texas Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) certification required
- Minimum 2 years regulatory inspection experience
- Strong knowledge of FDA Food Code and Texas Health & Safety Codes
- Excellent communication skills for public education and conflict resolution
- Valid Texas driver's license with clean driving record
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
