Responsibilities
- Administer the City's defined benefit pension plans and 457(b) deferred compensation programs in strict accordance with CalPERS regulations.
- Analyze complex member data to calculate accurate pension estimates, service credits, and retirement benefits.
- Ensure full compliance with state and federal pension laws, ERISA, and internal HR policies.
- Provide exceptional customer service to City employees regarding retirement eligibility, vesting schedules, and medical benefits coordination.
- Collaborate with the Payroll and HRIS teams to resolve discrepancies in contribution records and payroll deductions.
- Prepare and maintain comprehensive audit reports and statistical data for the Board of Retirement and City Council.
- Stay updated on legislative changes affecting public sector pension administration.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in public sector pension administration, benefits management, or actuarial support.
- Deep knowledge of California Public Employee Retirement System (CalPERS) guidelines and state labor codes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced functions) and experience with HRIS software (e.g., PeopleSoft, Workday).
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial statements and regulations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with diverse stakeholders.
