Responsibilities
- Analyze and process retirement applications for the New York State and Local Retirement System (NYSLRS) to determine eligibility and benefits.
- Perform complex pension calculations and verify calculations for accuracy before disbursement.
- Conduct periodic audits of pension records to ensure compliance with state statutes and internal policies.
- Communicate effectively with retirees, beneficiaries, and other stakeholders regarding pension status, inquiries, and procedural requirements.
- Collaborate with the Department of Taxation and Finance to manage tax withholdings and reporting requirements.
- Maintain and update accurate digital and physical records of all pension transactions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, or a related field is required.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in pension administration, actuarial science, or government benefits processing.
- Strong working knowledge of New York State and Local Retirement System (NYSLRS) regulations is highly preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel skills for data analysis.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with diverse populations.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards.
