Responsibilities
- Monitor and supervise inmate activities within correctional facilities to ensure security and compliance with regulations
- Conduct regular perimeter checks and security rounds to prevent contraband and unauthorized access
- Respond to emergencies, disturbances, and medical incidents with appropriate de-escalation techniques
- Maintain accurate logs, reports, and incident documentation using digital systems
- Enforce facility rules and procedures while promoting rehabilitation programs
- Collaborate with law enforcement and emergency services during critical incidents
- Participate in mandatory training sessions and certification programs
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required; college degree preferred
- Valid Texas driver's license with clean driving record
- Ability to pass comprehensive background check, drug screening, and psychological evaluation
- Physical fitness to meet TDCJ's correctional officer standards (including agility tests)
- Strong conflict resolution skills and ability to remain calm under pressure
- Basic computer proficiency for documentation and reporting systems
- Must be 18+ years old and a U.S. citizen
- Previous security or law enforcement experience highly valued
