The City of Omaha is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented City Clerk / Records Administrator to join our Public Works & Services team. In this pivotal role, you will serve as the primary point of contact for the public and the guardian of our city’s official history. We are looking for a professional who excels in administrative leadership and is passionate about transparency and public service.
As a City Clerk, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of city government by managing vital records, facilitating board meetings, and maintaining the integrity of municipal statutes.
Responsibilities
- Records Management: Oversee the creation, retention, and disposition of all official city records in compliance with state and federal retention schedules.
- Meeting Administration: Prepare agendas, take minutes, and coordinate logistics for the City Council and various commissions.
- Public Information: Serve as the primary liaison for Freedom of Information requests (FOIA) and provide exceptional customer service to residents and businesses.
- Permitting & Licensing: Manage the issuance of business licenses, permits, and certificates of occupancy.
- Statutory Compliance: Ensure all municipal procedures adhere to Nebraska Revised Statutes and city ordinances.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Public Administration or related field preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in a government or administrative office setting.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with government record management software (e.g., Accela, Archivists) is highly desirable.
- Attributes: Strong organizational skills, high attention to detail, and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with diverse populations.
