Responsibilities
- Monitor and control inmate activities within assigned housing units and common areas to prevent violence and disturbances.
- Conduct thorough security checks and searches of inmates and facilities to prevent contraband introduction.
- Enforce all rules, regulations, and laws governing the operation of the correctional facility.
- Document inmate behavior, incidents, and property accurately in written reports and logs.
- Respond immediately to emergencies, including medical crises, fires, or altercations, utilizing de-escalation techniques when possible.
- Supervise inmate work details and ensure all safety protocols are followed during labor assignments.
- Escort and transport inmates to court, medical facilities, or other locations as directed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- U.S. citizenship or permanent residency status required.
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation, drug screen, and medical examination.
- No felony convictions (specific exceptions may apply based on position level).
- Ability to meet the physical fitness requirements as outlined in TDCJ standards.
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to remain calm under pressure, and sound judgment.
- Valid driver's license preferred.
