Responsibilities
- Manage Court Records: Accurately receive, index, and file legal documents, petitions, and case files in strict accordance with established procedures.
- Customer Service Excellence: Assist litigants, attorneys, and the general public with inquiries regarding court dates, case status, and filing requirements.
- Process Filings: Verify the completeness of documents, collect required fees, and issue receipts for civil, criminal, and family law matters.
- Room Management: Maintain order and decorum in the courtroom, manage the docket, and notify parties when called to appear.
- Data Entry: Input case information into the County’s computer systems with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency.
- Interpretation: Assist in interpreting legal proceedings and procedural rules to non-legal staff or visitors when necessary.
- Record Keeping: Ensure the preservation and absolute confidentiality of sensitive legal records.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required; an Associate’s degree in Paralegal Studies or Criminal Justice is a strong plus.
- Experience: Previous experience in a clerical, administrative, or legal support role is preferred but not always mandatory for qualified candidates.
- Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and general computer literacy.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with a diverse population.
- Attention to Detail: A meticulous approach to work with a focus on accuracy and strict compliance with county protocols.
