Responsibilities
- Conduct Fact-Finding Interviews: Interview claimants and medical/legal sources to gather necessary information for Social Security disability and retirement claims.
- Determine Eligibility: Apply knowledge of SSA laws, regulations, and medical guidelines to determine the eligibility of applicants for benefits.
- Prepare Administrative Decisions: Draft and issue formal decisions regarding disability claims, including notices of approval or denial.
- Provide Customer Service: Respond to inquiries from the public, beneficiaries, and representatives via phone, email, and in-person interactions.
- Collaborate with Teams: Work closely with other disability examiners, medical consultants, and legal staff to resolve complex cases efficiently.
- Update Records: Maintain accurate and up-to-date case files and electronic records in accordance with federal privacy standards.
Qualifications
- Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen or eligible for non-citizenship employment.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Background Check: Must successfully complete a background investigation, including fingerprinting and a credit check.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex regulations to the public clearly.
- Computer Literacy: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn federal case management software quickly.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to analyze data and documentation with high accuracy and attention to detail.
