Responsibilities
- Oversee electronic health record (EHR) systems to ensure HIPAA compliance and data integrity
- Develop and implement health information policies aligned with federal regulations (45 CFR Part 160/164)
- Conduct quality audits of medical documentation and coding accuracy
- Train healthcare staff on health information management best practices
- Coordinate with IT teams on system upgrades and cybersecurity protocols
- Analyze health data trends to support veteran care improvement initiatives
- Manage document retention and destruction processes per federal guidelines
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or related field
- RHIA or RHIT certification through AHIMA
- Minimum 3 years' experience with EHR systems (Epic/Cerner preferred)
- Expert knowledge of HIPAA, HITECH, and CMS regulations
- Proficiency in ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT coding
- Federal background investigation clearance eligibility
- Experience with VA VISTA system or federal health IT platforms
