Responsibilities
- Maintain and audit electronic health records (EHR) systems ensuring HIPAA compliance and VA documentation standards
- Process and release medical information in accordance with federal regulations and privacy laws
- Train staff on health information management protocols and EHR software updates
- Conduct quality assurance reviews of medical documentation accuracy and completeness
- Collaborate with clinical teams to resolve documentation discrepancies and improve workflows
- Implement and maintain records retention policies per federal guidelines
- Support data integrity initiatives for veteran health information systems
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or related field (or equivalent experience)
- RHIA or RHIT certification required through AHIMA
- Minimum 2 years experience in healthcare documentation management
- Proficiency in EHR systems (e.g., VistA, Epic) and Microsoft Office Suite
- Knowledge of HIPAA, VA directives, and federal health information regulations
- Ability to work independently in a weekend shift environment
- Strong attention to detail and data management skills
- U.S. citizenship required for federal employment
