Role Overview:
As a Federal Pension Specialist, you will serve as a subject matter expert on the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) and Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS). You will conduct consultations, analyze retirement applications, and provide strategic guidance to federal workers transitioning to retirement.
Responsibilities
- Analyze Eligibility: Review federal employment records to determine pension eligibility and calculate accrued benefits under FERS and CSRS.
- TSP Consultation: Provide expert guidance on Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) investment strategies and withdrawal options.
- Retirement Counseling: Conduct one-on-one counseling sessions to help employees plan for healthcare costs, life insurance, and tax implications in retirement.
- Workshops & Training: Develop and deliver educational seminars on federal retirement planning to employee groups and agencies.
- Compliance: Ensure all pension processing adheres to federal laws, regulations, and agency policies.
- Case Management: Manage a high-volume caseload of retirement inquiries with a focus on accuracy and timely resolution.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in federal benefits administration, pension management, or financial consulting.
- Knowledge: Deep understanding of FERS, CSRS, TSP, and Federal OPM retirement regulations.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to diverse audiences.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical abilities with attention to detail for data verification and calculation.
- Certifications: Preferred: Certified Financial Planner (CFP) or SHRM-CP.
