Join the Federal Team – We are seeking a detail-oriented Federal Pension Specialist to join our Weekend Operations team in Washington, DC. This role is critical to the timely processing of retirement benefits for federal employees, including those based in the DC area and supporting offices across North Carolina.

As a Federal Pension Specialist, you will ensure the accurate calculation and disbursement of retirement benefits under the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) and Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS). You will handle complex inquiries, process Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) transactions, and ensure compliance with federal regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Process Weekend Pension Applications: Review and approve retirement applications, pension estimates, and survivor benefit claims received over the weekend to ensure timely processing.
  • Analyze Retirement Eligibility: Determine federal service dates, tenure, and retirement eligibility for employees across multiple jurisdictions, including Washington DC and satellite offices in North Carolina.
  • TSP Management: Manage Thrift Savings Plan enrollments, withdrawals, and loan applications for federal employees during off-hours operations.
  • Compliance & Accuracy: Ensure all calculations adhere to OPM regulations and federal accounting standards; correct any discrepancies in employee records immediately.
  • Client Communication: Respond to complex inquiries from federal retirees and active employees via secure email channels regarding pension projections and benefits.
  • Record Maintenance: Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic and physical records for all weekend-processed files.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in federal benefits administration, payroll, or pension processing.
  • Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of FERS, CSRS, and OPM retirement regulations. Familiarity with the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) is highly preferred.
  • Skills: Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel is critical) and federal HRIS systems.
