Responsibilities
- Develop and execute comprehensive public affairs strategies for DHS initiatives in Michigan
- Coordinate with federal, state, and local stakeholders to ensure consistent messaging
- Lead crisis communications during emergency response operations
- Manage media relations through press conferences, interviews, and written communications
- Analyze public sentiment and adjust strategies accordingly
- Oversee digital communications across DHS platforms
- Supervise public affairs team members and interns
- Prepare briefings for senior leadership and congressional stakeholders
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, or related field (Master's preferred)
- 5+ years of public affairs experience, preferably in government or regulated industries
- Active Secret security clearance (or ability to obtain)
- Expertise in crisis communications and media relations
- Proficiency with CMS platforms and analytics tools
- Demonstrated success in developing multi-channel campaigns
- Strong writing/editing skills with portfolio samples
- Knowledge of federal regulations and compliance requirements
