Responsibilities
- Plan Administration: Oversee the daily administration of state pension plans, ensuring accurate calculation of benefits and timely processing of member requests.
- Compliance & Auditing: Conduct thorough audits of pension records to ensure strict adherence to ERISA, FERPA, and California State Government regulations.
- Member Relations: Serve as the primary point of contact for retirees and beneficiaries, providing clear explanations of benefit statements and resolving complex inquiries.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare detailed monthly and quarterly reports for internal management and state oversight boards regarding fund status and liability.
- Data Integrity: Maintain and update member databases, ensuring high data accuracy and confidentiality of sensitive financial information.
- Regulatory Updates: Monitor changes in pension laws and government policies, updating internal procedures to maintain continuous compliance.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Certifications: CPA, CRPS (Certified Retirement Plans Specialist), or SHRM-CP/SCP certification is highly desirable.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in pension administration, benefits management, or government finance.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with benefits administration software (e.g., Ceridian, SAP, or Workday).
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of defined benefit plans, 401(k), 403(b), and retirement plan structures.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
