Responsibilities
- Administer municipal pension plans ensuring compliance with ERISA, IRS, and Colorado state regulations
- Process retirement applications, benefit calculations, and disbursements with 99.8% accuracy
- Conduct annual plan valuations and actuarial reporting for the City Council
- Develop educational materials and conduct workshops for employees nearing retirement
- Manage pension fund investments and reconcile quarterly statements with financial advisors
- Respond to employee inquiries within 24 hours and resolve benefit disputes
- Collaborate with auditors during annual compliance reviews and prepare regulatory filings
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, or related field
- 3+ years of pension plan administration or retirement benefits experience
- Proficiency with pension administration software (e.g., Millennium, Empower)
- Certified Pension Consultant (CPC) or Certified Retirement Counselor (CRC) preferred
- Expert knowledge of ERISA, IRS 401(a) regulations, and Colorado PERA requirements
- Advanced Excel skills with pivot tables and VLOOKUP functions
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail in complex financial calculations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for stakeholder presentations
