Responsibilities
- Maintain and organize electronic health records (EHR) in compliance with VA and HIPAA standards
- Analyze and code medical diagnoses/procedures using ICD-10 and CPT classification systems
- Release health information to authorized entities while maintaining strict confidentiality protocols
- Perform quality audits on medical documentation for accuracy and completeness
- Train staff on health information management systems and best practices
- Collaborate with clinical teams to resolve documentation discrepancies
Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Health Information Technology or related field
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification required
- Minimum 2 years experience in medical records management
- Proficiency in EHR systems (e.g., CPRS, VistA)
- Knowledge of HIPAA and VA health information regulations
- Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance
- Strong attention to detail with data entry accuracy verification skills
