Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of streets, alleys, sidewalks, and public parks.
- Operate heavy municipal machinery and vehicles, including dump trucks, sweepers, and loaders.
- Assist in snow removal, ice control, and de-icing operations during winter months.
- Repair and maintain public infrastructure, including guardrails, signage, and utility covers.
- Ensure all work is performed in strict adherence to safety regulations, OSHA standards, and City policies.
- Respond to emergency maintenance requests and assist in disaster recovery efforts as needed.
- Monitor equipment for mechanical issues and report maintenance needs to supervisors.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Valid Illinois Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred; Class A may be considered with experience.
- Ability to pass a mandatory pre-employment physical examination and drug screening.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and experience with basic power tools and equipment.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and the ability to obtain a City of Chicago ID.
