Responsibilities
- Infrastructure Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and inspections of city streets, sidewalks, parks, and public facilities to ensure safety and accessibility.
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate heavy machinery, including dump trucks, front-end loaders, and landscaping equipment.
- Snow and Ice Control: Respond to winter weather events by clearing roads and sidewalks to maintain public safety and traffic flow.
- Waste Management Support: Assist in the collection and disposal of municipal waste, litter control, and street sweeping operations.
- Vegetation Management: Trim trees, clear brush, and maintain landscaping in public rights-of-way.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all OSHA safety regulations, traffic control procedures, and city policies during all duties.
- Public Interaction: Interact professionally with the public and other city departments to resolve maintenance issues.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Experience: Previous experience in construction, landscaping, general labor, or public works is preferred but not mandatory for immediate hire candidates.
- Licensing: Valid Class C North Carolina Driver's License (or ability to obtain one) required. Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is a plus.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physical labor including lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for extended periods, and working in various weather conditions.
- Skills: Basic knowledge of hand and power tools; ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Availability: Must be available to work occasional overtime, weekends, and shift work during emergencies.
