The City of Philadelphia Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking dedicated and energetic individuals to serve as Parks and Recreation Workers. Responsibilities
- Maintain and repair park facilities, including restrooms, playgrounds, and athletic fields to ensure safety and cleanliness standards.
- Assist in the planning and execution of community events, sports leagues, and recreational programs for all age groups.
- Perform routine landscaping duties, including mowing, edging, weeding, and seasonal planting to enhance the aesthetic appeal of parks.
- Monitor park grounds for safety hazards, vandalism, or maintenance issues and report them promptly to supervisors.
- Interact with the public to provide information, resolve complaints, and ensure a positive visitor experience.
- Operate and maintain light and heavy machinery, including tractors, mowers, and dump trucks, following all safety protocols.
- Assist in the removal of debris, litter, and snow from walkways and parking areas during inclement weather.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Previous experience in landscaping, maintenance, or customer service is preferred but not mandatory.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds for extended periods.
- Valid Class C Pennsylvania Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and rain.
- Strong commitment to public service, teamwork, and community engagement.
- Basic knowledge of safety procedures and equipment operation is a plus.
