Responsibilities
- Receive, verify, and file a wide variety of legal documents, including deeds, judgments, and marriage licenses, ensuring accuracy and compliance with state regulations.
- Greet and assist the public and attorneys with inquiries regarding court procedures, filing deadlines, and available forms.
- Operate office equipment, including scanners, copiers, and computer systems, to digitize and archive case files efficiently.
- Prepare and distribute correspondence, summonses, and legal notices to appropriate parties.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive legal and personal information in accordance with privacy laws.
- Assist the Chief Clerk and other staff members with administrative tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the courthouse.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent is required; additional clerical or legal experience is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to detect and correct errors in data entry and document processing.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with the public.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic computer navigation.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize duties in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Must pass a background check and adhere to the professional code of conduct expected of courthouse employees.
