As a Library Assistant, you'll be the face of our community hub—helping patrons access resources, supporting literacy programs, and maintaining an inclusive learning environment. No prior library experience required—just a passion for public service and a commitment to excellence.
Responsibilities
- Assist patrons with material circulation, returns, and renewals using ILS systems
- Provide reference support and technology assistance to library visitors
- Shelve materials and maintain orderly organization of all library sections
- Support program coordination for children's, adult, and digital literacy initiatives
- Process new acquisitions and assist with inventory management
- Operate library equipment including copiers, scanners, and self-service kiosks
- Contribute to outreach efforts in Baltimore communities
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (college coursework preferred)
- Basic computer literacy and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to serve diverse populations
- Ability to stand/walk for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Passion for public service and library mission
- Valid Maryland driver's license (for outreach programs)
