Responsibilities
- Administer and process pension benefit calculations, including retirement, disability, and death benefits, ensuring strict adherence to North Carolina General Statutes.
- Review and validate pension application packets for accuracy and completeness, minimizing processing errors.
- Provide exceptional customer service and technical assistance to retirees, beneficiaries, and agency representatives regarding pension inquiries.
- Conduct audits of pension data and system records to ensure compliance with federal (ERISA) and state regulations.
- Collaborate with the team to implement process improvements that enhance efficiency and accuracy in pension administration.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for all pension transactions and case files.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in pension administration, actuarial science, or public sector human resources is preferred.
- Familiarity with the North Carolina State Retirement Systems and relevant state government regulations is highly desirable.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Access) and experience with ERISA/plan administration software.
- Excellent analytical skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy in data entry and calculation.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-technical audiences.
