In this role, you will act as a critical link between the city government and its workforce, ensuring the accurate processing of retirement benefits and pension calculations. We are looking for a professional with a strong background in administrative services and a passion for public service.
Responsibilities
- Process Retirement Applications: Accurately review, verify, and process retirement applications and pension claims for city employees.
- Customer Service: Provide professional assistance to retirees and active staff regarding pension eligibility, benefit projections, and status inquiries.
- Record Keeping: Maintain meticulous records of all pension transactions and update internal databases with high attention to detail.
- Compliance: Ensure all pension processing adheres to California Public Employee Retirement System (CalPERS) guidelines and city policies.
- Weekend Operations: Manage the front desk and phone lines during weekend shifts to assist walk-ins and handle urgent pension requests.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the Payroll and HR departments to resolve discrepancies in pension data.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Human Resources is highly preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in administrative support, customer service, or government benefits processing.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office Suite and experience with database management or payroll systems.
- Attention to Detail: Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive financial data and ensure error-free documentation.
- Availability: Must be available to work weekends (Saturday and Sunday) on a rotating schedule.
