Responsibilities
- Oversee daily pension plan operations including benefit calculations, distributions, and record maintenance
- Ensure strict compliance with federal/state regulations (ERISA, IRC, CalPERS) and internal policies
- Analyze complex retirement scenarios and provide guidance to employees/retirees on benefit options
- Collaborate with finance teams on funding valuations, actuarial studies, and investment reporting
- Implement process improvements using modern HRIS/Pension administration software
- Prepare regulatory filings and audit responses for DOL, IRS, and CalPERS
- Lead stakeholder communications including town halls, training sessions, and policy updates
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Public Administration, Actuarial Science, or related field (Master's preferred)
- 5+ years pension administration experience with public sector or multi-employer plans
- Deep knowledge of ERISA, IRC 414, CalPERS regulations, and FASB pension accounting standards
- Advanced proficiency in pension administration software (e.g., Millennium, Northgate)
- Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret complex benefit provisions and financial models
- Certified Pension Consultant (CPC) or similar designation highly desirable
- Excellent communication skills for translating technical concepts to diverse audiences
- Proven track record of managing high-volume benefit operations with zero-error tolerance
