Responsibilities
- Administer pension benefits including retirement calculations, disability claims, and survivor benefits
- Ensure compliance with ERISA, IRS regulations, and Virginia state pension statutes
- Manage member communications regarding plan changes, contribution rates, and retirement options
- Prepare annual actuarial valuations and financial reports for the Pension Board
- Coordinate with external auditors and investment consultants to maintain fiduciary standards
- Develop and implement pension plan policies and procedures aligned with best practices
- Train HR staff and department heads on pension administration processes
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (Master's preferred)
- Minimum 5 years of pension plan administration experience
- SPBC (Pension Plan Certification) or CEBS designation required
- Expert knowledge of ERISA, IRS 401(a), and Virginia Code ยง 51.1-124
- Advanced proficiency in pension administration software (e.g., Millennium, Empower)
- Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret complex financial regulations
- Excellent communication skills for interfacing with diverse stakeholders
- Virginia government experience strongly preferred
