Responsibilities
- Administer pension plans for public sector employees including benefit calculations, eligibility verification, and retirement processing
- Ensure strict compliance with federal/state regulations (ERISA, IRS, CalPERS policies) and audit requirements
- Manage member inquiries, disputes, and complex retirement scenarios with exceptional customer service
- Analyze financial data, prepare actuarial reports, and contribute to long-term fund sustainability strategies
- Collaborate with HR departments, legal teams, and external auditors on policy implementations
- Maintain accurate digital records using specialized pension administration software
- Participate in system upgrades and process improvement initiatives
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Public Administration, Accounting, or related field
- 3+ years of pension administration, benefits, or retirement fund experience
- Deep knowledge of ERISA, IRS regulations, and California pension laws
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and pension-specific software (e.g., PeopleAdmin, Oracle HCM)
- Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret complex financial data
- Excellent communication skills for explaining technical concepts to diverse stakeholders
- Professional certification (e.g., CEBS, QKA) preferred
- Experience with public sector retirement systems highly desirable
